Giving Back: Birmingham Restaurant Week Donates $5,000 to Manna Ministries of Alabaster

Giving back to the community is at the heart of everything we do for Birmingham Restaurant Week (BRW). Over the past 13 years, we have donated over $95,000 to local food-based nonprofits and community organizations. After a successful BRW 2022 – Winter Edition, we are pleased to announce BRW is donating $5,000 to Manna Ministries

Feeding over 1,000 families a month in the Jefferson, Chilton and Shelby counties with only donations from local grocery stores, the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama, individuals and volunteers, Manna Ministries helps fill pantries and feed souls. Located at Shepherd’s Harvest Church in Alabaster, Manna Ministries has been serving individuals for over 30 years with only a small group of 100 percent non-paid volunteers answering prayers with only pennies. On Saturdays, Manna distributes between 800 to 900 loaves of bread, along with pantry items, produce, meats, dairy and pastries, which are packaged and distributed to those in need after the services at Shepherd’s Harvest Church in Alabaster. Manna Ministries serves individuals showing the most need, including the elderly, widowed, single parents, sober living, battered women and those living on a fixed or little income.

Our donation will help Manna continue to serve hundreds of families a month facing food insecurity with nutritional grocery items. Food insecurities know no boundaries and are present in every community, race, religion and age group. We are here to cultivate food awareness and provide all individuals with what they need by helping organizations like Manna Ministries every chance we get.

“What a blessing this donation is to Manna Ministries and those we serve,” said Manna Ministries President Sam Charif. “Birmingham Restaurant Week just helped Manna purchase 31,000 pounds of food to be given directly to those in our local community who otherwise would go hungry. This means 300 families will have groceries for the next six weeks because of your generosity. We are grateful to Birmingham Restaurant Week for supporting Manna Ministries’ mission to provide for those facing food insecurities.”

“Giving back has always been a key element in Birmingham Restaurant Week, and it is important that we help others lacking the basic necessities to survive,” says BRW founder Bill Stoeffhaas. “It was a no-brainer to donate to Manna Ministries. They help so many individuals facing food insecurity. We are proud to help them help others in our community.”

Keeping bellies full and hearts happy is what powers our mission behind our event year after year. Our sponsors, participating restaurants and community always offer a generous support system to our initiatives and because of them, we are able to collectively give back in the name of food.

Prior to this donation, BRW and Tito’s Handmade Vodka, donated $2,500 each to the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama and Firehouse Ministries after the summer edition of BRW 2021. BRW and Tito’s also donated $5,000 to the AL Hospitality Workers Relief Fund after BRW 2021 – Winter Edition, which provided emergency assistance to hospitality workers in Alabama affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
