Back in 1955, when rock-n-roll was brand new, the Magic City tuned to WSGN to hear the revolution. Birmingham's first Top 40 Station had a remote studio on 7th Avenue South, at the heart of the Lakeview District. Deejays took live requests from their "sky castle," a glass-walled booth over Ed Salem’s Drive-In. Teenagers cruised up, ordered burgers from carhops on roller skates, and stayed to watch DJs spin their favorite hits. 60 years later, a new Sky Castle sits in the same spot, giving a nod to the past while shaping the future.
